Fly Tiers

We had 103 fly tiers on our table assignments list. They did a fantastic job of educating people on the art of tying flies. When you look at patterns tied by members of the Northwest Atlantic Salmon Fly Tying Guild you must agree they are works of art. However, every style of fly pattern from the most complex to the simplest was represented. People who came to the Washington Fly Fishing Fair learned to tie new and traditional patterns, use new and old materials even how to use the patterns to catch their favorite fish. Most people also went away with a sample to copy (except for the full dress salmon flies that took hours to tie).

Sam Matalone photographed many of the flies tie at the Fair and put them on his website. You can take a look at them but clicking on the following link:

All these tiers had somebody in front of them, but the distance between them was too much for web use so many of the viewers were cropped out. Most of these picturres were taken during the fair. However, some were added from last year's Fly Tying Conclave and other shows to include some of the tiers who were not photographed during the fair.
