Salmonfest, Levenworth, WA

The public access of the 19th Annual Wenatchee River Salmon Festival was September 19-20, 2009

The Wenatchee River Salmon Festival is a four-day natural resource education event held in September to celebrate the return of wild salmon to the Wenatchee River. The Festival is held on the grounds of the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery, located at the mouth of the scenic Icicle Canyon near the Bavarian city of Leavenworth, Washington.

Students from schools throughout north central Washington visit the Festival during special school days. On Saturday and Sunday there are thousands of visitors from the northwest and Canada. The Festival brings people, natural resources, education, entertainment and science together in a non-commercial, non-political package that connects people to nature. The Wenatchee River Salmon Festival is nationally recognized for its educational excellence.

Members of the Wenatchee Valley Fly Fishers taught 270 kids and a few adults to tie fishing flies and the members of the Washington State Council of the FFF taught 216 kids and a few adults to cast with a fly rod.

Sylvee was cautioned about getting too close to the fly tiers. She found out why when she sat down next to Steve Olsen, President of the Wenatche Valley Fly Fishers. He immediately started tying a fly with her hair.

Her job was to introduce the performers on the main stage. When not working at Salmonfest, Sylvee (aka Rhona Baron) hosts the KPQ Lifestyles show for Cherry Creek Radio in Wenatchee.
