OLYMPIA =96 A series of six workshops will be held this month and =
next for=20
individuals and organizations interested in sponsoring nearshore habitat =
restoration and preservation projects in the Puget Sound area.=20
The workshops, hosted by the Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership (http://www.pugetsoundnearshore.org/) and the =
Washington=20
Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), will be held at various sites =
throughout=20
the region.=20
The workshops are designed to provide potential project sponsors with =
up-to-date information and guidance on nearshore restoration and =
familiarize=20
them with the state's Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program (ESRP), =
established=20
by the Legislature in 2006 as part of Gov. Chris Gregoire's Puget Sound=20
Initiative.=20
WDFW, which manages the program, distributed $7.4 million in =
competitive=20
awards to ESRP projects last year.=20
"These meetings are a great opportunity for people interested in =
sponsoring a=20
project to find out more about the program and make sure they have the=20
information and tools needed to develop successful proposals," said Paul =
Cereghino, ESRP program manager.=20
Workshop topics include the grant-award timetable, project-selection=20
criteria, reports on 2007 ESRP projects and an update on the General=20
Investigation Study for the Puget Sound Nearshore Ecosystem Restoration =
Project.=20
Facilitators will be available to answer questions following the =
workshops.=20
