Subject: Bill to require WDFW to use private hatcheries for 50% of trout production

This bill was introduced today. It would, over the next couple of years require the state to move 50% of WDFW trout production to private fish farms through contract actions.

SB 6268 - DIGEST

Requires the department of fish and wildlife to annually

use at least fifty percent of all operating moneys expended to

produce or obtain trout for purposes of stocking freshwater

areas to enhance recreational fishing opportunities on

contracts with registered aquatic farmers.

Requires the state auditor to complete a comprehensive

audit of the department of fish and wildlife's program to

produce, obtain, and stock freshwater areas with trout to

enhance recreational fishing opportunities. This requirement

expires June 30, 2014.

Exempts the department of fish and wildlife from certain

competitive contracting provisions.
